Outdated hair transplant procedures like hair plugs have several unfortunate disadvantages for patients. Scarring and unnatural-looking results are endemic to less advanced techniques. Other, non-invasive techniques do not have the staying power of surgical hair transplant techniques.
However, you don’t have to choose between temporary treatments and permanent yet unsightly procedures any longer. At Pistone Hair Restoration, we offer the advanced technique of follicular unit extraction (FUE) because it has several advantages over older methods of hair transplantation.
About Follicular Unit Extraction
As we explained in an earlier blog post, FUE is an advanced hair transplantation method. Hair naturally grows in individual groupings of one to four hairs called follicular units. Older hair transplant methods remove large punches of hair and transplanted them to bald spots on the scalp, resulting in a “doll’s hair” or “cornrow” effect. With FUE, your doctor can arrange individual hair units in realistic growth patterns. Since the hair remains in its natural bundle of tissue, your transplanted hair stays healthy, with reduced risk of damage during and after the procedure.
No Linear Scar
Some older hair transplant methods leave a bare strip of skin where hair was excised from the scalp. Despite the otherwise attractive results of the “strip method,” the scarring may have deterred you from undergoing hair transplantation. However, the precision of FUE allows us to remove units with minimal scarring at the donor site. The fact that you’ve had hair restoration surgery will be apparent only to those you tell.
Natural, Artistic Results
As mentioned above, hair transplant procedures sometimes get a poor reputation for looking unrealistic. Hair plugs, scalp reduction and other imprecise techniques leave unnatural hairlines. However, a skilled doctor can achieve truly artistic results with FUE. Dr. Pistone pays careful attention to the shape and planes of your face as well as your natural hair growth pattern to seamlessly blend transplanted units into the rest of your hair. Remember that this skill is something earned only through experience, not through the use of a certain system or technique, so make sure that you choose a doctor with a well-established portfolio of aesthetically successful hair transplants.
Minimal Downtime and Discomfort
The time that it takes to perform a FUE procedure, as well as the recovery time after, is relatively quick. Your procedure can be completed in under a day, and Dr. Pistone’s team of caring professionals makes sure that you are comfortable throughout the procedure. We recommend that you sleep with your head elevated for two nights afterward, and will prescribe sleep or pain medication if you need it.
Permanent
Unlike topical treatments such as Rogaine, FUE is permanent. At Pistone Hair Restoration, we do offer non-surgical, non-permanent treatments so that patients of most budgets and needs can get what they are looking for. However, FUE is one of the few ways to get permanent results, and certainly the best permanent method available. If you’re on the fence about FUE, take a few minutes to imagine living the rest of your life without the stress of hair loss. At Pistone Hair Restoration we can make that life a reality.
